Discuss on how we can integrate Islamic knowledge across the curriculum.

How to integrate Islamic knowledge across the curriculum is by combining  Islamic knowledge with acquired knowledge. In other words, is to fuse Islamic concepts in the secular subjects. For this to happen and effective there is a need of change in terms of the  curriculum, teachers and learning materials.

Firstly, in terms of Curriculum. Secular  curriculum need to be abolished and  implement Islamic integrated Curriculum. This being say doesn’t mean we reject secular subjects, however it means to combine secular subjects  with Islamic concept. The entire curriculum would be an integrated with Islam-based system where all subjects are taught from an Islamic point of view. For this to be effective, there is a need for new syllabus which combine islamic concept with secular subject.

Secondly, In terms of teachers. Teacher should be train based on Islamic Integrated Curriculum. Teacher also must have pursued his professional skill in an educational institution this is to ensure that his/her prepares work and lesson plan align with Islamic Integrated Curriculum in applying the principles of the Integrated Islamic Education at  schools where they are going to be assigned. Furthermore, the teacher itself must be practicing Islam. The teachers who are already teaching need to undergo a short course on Islamic Integrated teacher’s training syllabus. Furthermore, to make this effective there’s a need for more Muslims teacher to be encouraged to join the teaching profession as the implementation of the Islamic Integrated Curriculum. Teachers are a role model for student. Teacher also should stress on the value of Islam, teach the student adab or manner behind all of this. As stated by the hadith of prophet He also said (peace and blessings be upon him), “The best of you are those best in character.” [Bukhari]. This is the reason why Islam stress on Adab.  Therefore, a practicing Muslim teacher can influence the student.

Lastly, In terms of learning materials. Islamic Integrated teaching materials need to be developed. The materials should include Islamic subjects and secular subjects where they fused together in order to eliminate the overloaded curriculum such as in text books, activity book and etc.

Hence, Islamic Integrated Education can only be achieved by implementing the effective curriculum, teachers and learning material. Therefore, the curriculum, teachers and learning materials play a vital role in the implementation of the Islamic Integrated Education.
